More Books, More Reading

The Classroom Wish List program is the best way to ensure your students are constantly exposed to new books in their classrooms. Not only is it an excellent way for families to get involved in encouraging their child to read more, it’s also a proven way to help you achieve you Book Fair goal by increasing Fair revenue. Look for the Classroom Wish List package in your Planning Kit.

Your Classroom Wish List Kit will include:
CWL Program Instruction Sheet
Program Instruction Sheet
Teacher Invitations Reproducible
Book Wishes Reproducible
Wish List Bookplates

5 Easy Steps:

Step One: Plan a Teacher Sneak Peek and send invitations to teachers one week before your event.

Step Two: At your Sneak Peek, ask teachers to select books for their classrooms. Teachers should complete the Book Wishes Reproducible included in this kit and return to you. Post these lists in your designated Classroom Wish List display area.

Step Three: Create a Wish List display area in a prominent spot in your Fair. Ask your student crew, or other volunteers, to help create the display on a board or wall using the Poster found in your kit and the teachers’ completed Book Wishes Lists. Creating a fun display will help promote the program to the entire school community. Send a letter home to parents urging them to stop by the Classroom Wish List display when they visit your Fair.

Step Four: During your Fair, draw customers’ attention to the Wish List display so they can view the Wish List for their child’s classroom. If possible, position a volunteer by your display to speak to parents about the program details.

Once parents have purchased which books they’d like to donate, put a checkmark next to the “Wish Granted” box(es) on the Book Wish list. Give customers a Bookplate that they can personalize and adhere to the inside cover of each book. This signed bookplate will identify the family or child as the book donor for years to come.

Step Five: Deliver each teacher’s Classroom Wish List Books at the completion of your Fair or have your Student Crew do it for you!

Try These Ideas!
Inform parents about Wish List program in letter home, newsletters & on school website.
Ask parents to purchase books for classroom in lieu of teacher, holiday or graduation gifts.
Graduating students can leave a lasting legacy by purchasing a book to donate to the library and writing their name on a Bookplate.
Decorate gift bags to collect and deliver donated books.
