HOMEMADE INVITATIONS
Friends love getting special invitations made just by you!
Activity: Funny Bunny!
Objective: This activity gives children the opportunity to create their own image of a bunny by paint stamping. Fine motor skills, shapes and perception are reinforced in this activity.
  Materials: Printable bunny pattern, sponge, paper or surface for painting, water-based paint, household items of choice.
  What to do: Let's make a funny bunny! Cut sponges with bunny pattern. Begin by dipping the sponges one at a time in the paint and then imprinting the body first, head, feet and hands, and finally the big ears. You can add eyes, nose, whiskers with things from around the house like; buttons, noodles, spaghetti, yarn, material, etc. Your bunny will be original and very funny!

  Baby sit someone's pet while they are out of town! Be sure you have permission from home!
  List the responsibilities of taking care of a pet. Visit your local pet store and discover which pets are the easiest and most difficult to care for. You may be surprised!

Activity: My Journal of Amazing Things!
Objective: This activity gives children the opportunity to discover new and amazing things about nature, animals, people and structures by first-hand observation.
  Materials: Drawing paper, colours or pencil, folder
  What to do: This journal is going to be your visual record of anything that you think is amazing! It might be a cocoon on your backyard tree, fire flies at night, an unusual building or someone that you find extra interesting. Fill your folder with blank pages and keep your colours handy. You will find amazing colours, shapes and people to draw all around you! This journal will grow and grow as you continue to find more amazing things around you each day! Be sure to date and sign every picture!

  Start a collection of something, anything! Bugs, leaves, stamps, signs, old toys, books, postcards. Let your imagination run wild!

Activity: My Fingerprints!
Objective: This activity helps children see that we are all unique and special by comparing fingerprints with others.
  Materials: Stamp pad, card or paper, marker, magnifying glass
  What to do: Trace your entire hand on your card or paper. Using the stamp pad, press each finger firmly and place the correct print on the matching finger outline. Take the magnifying glass and explore the world of fingerprints! Compare your prints with someone else's. Now you can see just how individual and special everyone really is!
More dog-gone fun things to do!:
Draw pictures of your entire family or friends. Write their names under each picture and discuss what makes you all different.
Discuss how you might differ from someone in a wheelchair or visa versa. Are you really all that different? How are you the same?

Activity: Telescope and Solar System
Objective: This activity gives children the opportunity to assemble a telescope, solar system mobile and become explorers of outer space.
Materials: Telescope: toilet paper rolls, colours, ribbon Solar System Mobile: One coat hanger, printable sun/planet page, colours, yarn or ribbon, glue, scissors
What to do: Decorate your telescope with colours and ribbon. colour your sun and planets, cut them out and attach them with the yarn (different lengths) to the coat hanger. Hang up your new solar system and look at the wonders of the universe in your own room with your own telescope! How about using glow-in-the-dark paint?!

Visit your local planetarium and discover what's so exciting about outer space! Use binoculars or a real telescope and see what you can discover at a distance!

Activity: Homemade Invitations!
Objective: This activity gives children an opportunity to plan a special time with friends and create homemade invitations.
Materials: Printable card, card making supplies; paper of any colour, postcard size, smaller or larger. It is up to you! Markers, paint, buttons, ribbon, material, glue, scissors, and envelopes if invitations will be mailed.
What to do: Friends love getting special invitations! Cut out the printable card and fill in the information for your guests. Place and glue it on your paper and finish decorating each card with your own designs! Hand-deliver or mail your invitations. What a fun invitation for your guests!

Save and collect invitations you receive from your friends. They make great reading on your walls!
Have a card making party for Christmas! Have everyone bring over his or her scraps of paper and card making supplies and create special cards to share during the season!
