About the story

Robert Munsch made up Swamp Water in Fredericton, New Brunswick. He was having lunch at a fancy hotel restaurant before a show. There were ducks in the river right outside the hotel, and there was also a little girl having a fancy lunch with her grandma. The girl was about to go to his show and she had brought one of his books, so he went over and signed it. Later he came up with this story. The only problem was that he hadn't gotten the girl's full name and address. He only knew that she was Victoria! So he wrote to the Daily Gleaner newspaper in Fredericton and enlisted their help to finally track Victoria down.
