Human beings have been struggling with the devastating effects of drought, flood, and crop disease throughout history. We can’t make rain fall (or stop it from falling) but, as a world community, we can respond to disasters by sending food and medicine.

We can also try to prevent disasters. United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO) is leading new projects on ways to defeat hunger in over 100 countries. They include improving soil quality, introducing new crop varieties, and showing farmers how to manage their land better.
