Internships at Scholastic Canada provide opportunities for students to gain experience in the publishing field, determine if they have an interest in a particular career, create a network of contacts, or gain school credit. The internship program strives to provide meaningful work experience with on the job coaching and mentoring in a professional business environment in the publishing field.

Please note, applicants must be enrolled in a post-secondary program with an internship as a requirement. Your post-secondary institute must have a Workplace Safety and Insurance Board policy that covers you as an intern in the workplace. Proof of said insurance must be provided before you begin your placement term.

Internship positions are offered in the following divisions:

Marketing — 604 King Street West, Toronto, ON
Publishing — 604 King Street West, Toronto, ON

Although little or no related work experience is necessary, a team player and self starter with a professional and positive attitude is required. Above all, a love of reading and enthusiasm for children’s literature are mandatory!

The successful intern applicant will also have the following competencies:

  • Well-developed organizational skills and communication skills
  • A strong eye for detail;
  • The ability to multi-task and establish priorities;
  • Ability to take direction from others;
  • Comfortable with asking questions;
  • Proficiency in the following Microsoft Office applications:
    • Word
    • PowerPoint
    • Outlook
    • Excel

Internships Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to be a student to apply for an internship?
Yes. Applicants must be enrolled in a post-secondary program with an internship as a requirement. Your post-secondary institute must have a Workplace Safety and Insurance Board policy that covers you as an intern in the workplace. Proof of said insurance must be provided before you begin your placement term.

Is the Internship a paid position?
Scholastic’s internship program is on a voluntary basis and designed to reward you with the opportunity to observe and learn about the publishing industry first hand while gaining much valued job experience in the field.

How long is my placement?
Generally, interns are enrolled in a community college program that requires students to complete a predetermined length of internship: usually 4 – 6 weeks. We will, whenever possible, accommodate the college’s requirements and may extend the duration of the program based on the intern and Scholastic’s needs. We retain the right to terminate the relationship between the company and intern without notice should circumstances require such action.
