February 2005

Hi, readers! Since this is my first letter of 2005, let me wish you all a very happy and healthy new year. I only hope that everyone welcomed in the new year on a more upbeat note than I did! My track record of very good health ended just after Christmas when I came down with one of the worst colds I've ever had. My good friends kept our plans to spend a few days over New Year's at my house with the hopes that I'd make a quick recovery, but it was not to be. While they played board games, ate fun snack food and went on winter hikes, I lay around on the couch and felt more than a little sorry for myself!

I'm happy to say that February got off to a much better start, beginning with a weekend visit from my sister and my nephew Henry. Henry is absolutely in love with my dog, Sadie (they'll both celebrate their seventh birthdays in March) and they were inseparable the entire time. Sadie surprised me by happily spending the night in Henry's room instead of in her usual spot in my room. After seeing the two of them together in boy/doggie bliss, I wouldn't be surprised if Henry starts asking his parents for a puppy of his own.

My editor Liz was happy when I was healthy again because we still have some work to do on my latest book, A Dog's Life: The Autobiography of a Stray. Last week I received the galleys (my first look at the manuscript set in type) so now I'm doing a little tweaking before I send them back to Liz. I'll tell you more about A Dog's Life when the book is ready to be published at the end of this summer (but I think the title gives away the basic idea!).

I have exciting news for fans of the Doll People books. Laura Godwin and I are going to write our third book about the Doll and Funcraft families called The Runaway Dolls, in which Annabelle and Tiffany continue their friendship and adventures. We're thrilled that Brian Selznick will once again do the illustrations. However, because of the long time that it can take for an idea to become a published book, I can't say exactly when The Runaway Dolls will be in bookstores and libraries. I promise to let you know as soon as I know!

That's all the news for now. So until next time, I leave you as a healthy, happy, and caught-up-on-her work person, and wish exactly the same for all of you!

Happy reading!

Love,

Ann
